Islamabad: In a big relief for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Islamabad High Court granted him bail in the Al-Qadir Trust Case on Friday.
Adding to this, the Islamabad high court also directed not to arrest Khan in any cases filed after May 9, reported Pakistani media.
This comes after the Pakistan Supreme Court on Thursday called his arrest ‘illegal and unlawful” and ordered his immediate release. The Pakistan Supreme Court had issued directives and ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to produce Khan within an hour.
After providing relief to the ex-prime minister, the Islamabad High Court ruled Imran Khan must be granted bail if martial law, as permitted by Article 245 of Pakistan’s Constitution, is imposed for a term of two weeks.
Imran’s legal team has reportedly made four further pleas to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking for the merger of all the cases brought against him, according to a news report by Dawn NewsTV. They have also requested information from the authorities regarding the accusations brought against their client.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), while interacting with the media outside the Islamabad High Court, alleged that he was hit on the head while being arrested.
When asked about the protest and violence, he said, “How could I have stopped whatever happened? I had already told [you] that there would be a reaction to the arrest.” “When I was taken into custody, how could I be responsible?”
In a video that was published on Independent Urdu’s social media page, Imran made a remark, saying, ” I was sitting in the high court. They had no reason to arrest me. I was abducted, they showed me the warrant for the first time when they took me to jail. This is what happens when the country is governed by the law of the jungle and the army carries out abductions without rhyme or reason. Where did the police go? Where did the law go?”
He further stated: “When I reached the court yesterday, I found out for the first time that 40 helpless people had lost their lives in this. I did not even know about this,” the former PM added. “
Meanwhile, Babar Awan, Imran Khan’s lawyer, alleged that a police team from Lahore left for Islamabad to arrest Imran in “new cases.”
The former prime minister was arrested on Tuesday at the premises of the Islamabad High Court by Pakistan Rangers after a warrant was issued by the National Accountability Bureau.
Violent protests were seen all over Pakistan after Khan’s arrest on Tuesday. His supporters came out in public, asking for the immediate release of the PTI chief. Internet services have been suspended in many parts of Pakistan following the violent protest by Khan supporters.
