A video of Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) supremo Pappu Yadav crying is widely shared on social media showing him alleging that people have beaten him in Prayagraj after he made a statement against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “योगीजी का मजाक उड़ानें वालें पागल सांड़ पप्पू यादव की प्रयागराज में हिंदू युवाओं द्रारा बहुत अच्छे से धुलाई. रो रहा है पप्पू सांड़” (English translation: Pappu Yadav, the mad bull who used to make fun of Yogiji, was thoroughly washed by Hindu youths in Prayagraj. The video had the logo of Quint in its top left corner. Searching with relevant keywords, we found the same video uploaded on Quint Hindi’s official YouTube channel on September 6, 2018, with a caption: “Pappu Yadav, MP from Madhepura in Bihar, has made a big allegation against the protesters during Bharat Bandh of upper castes. #PappuYadav claims that the protesters attacked without listening to him. During the conversation with journalists, Pappu wept bitterly. He said that he was going to participate in the Women’s Bachao Yatra, he was first abused by his mother and sister, then killed. Pappu alleges that his workers were also beaten up.”
The same video was also uploaded on the YouTube channel of Zee Hindustan, dated September 7, 2018, with the text: “MP Pappu Yadav also came under fire of the upper caste movement, he was attacked in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Pappu Yadav claimed that had the bodyguard not been there, he would have been killed.” This clearly means that the video is old.
According to a report by Jansatta dated April 29, 2023, Pappu Yadav had gone to Jantar Mantar to support the wrestlers’ protest. During this, he made fun of Yogi Adityanath and made objectionable statements against him. Moreover, there are no reports of him being beaten up by people recently in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Thus, it is confirmed that the viral video of Pappu Yadav is old and not related to his recent comments against Adityanath. Therefore, the viral video is misleading.
