Fact Check: Does This Video Show India’s First Hyperloop In Bengaluru? Here’s The Truth

Date:

A video showing people riding two-wheelers through a cylinder-shaped structure next to the road is widely shared on social media, claiming that it is “India’s first hyperloop” in Bengaluru’s Belandur. Hyperloop is a future method of transportation that will theoretically let people travel in pods at over 700 mph within enormous low-pressure tubes.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “India’s first Hyperloop opened at Belandur in Bengaluru. The solution is in the pipeline.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

The Google keyword search, however, could not find any credible report stating that  “India’s first hyperloop” was opened in Bengaluru. Had such an incident happened, mainstream media would have definitely covered it.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, we traced a news report by News18, dated April 27, 2023, that embedded a similar tweet in the article. The article reads: “While India’s first hyperloop project still may be a few years away, Mumbaikar seem to have found an alternative. And it’s already up and running with a twist. A video posted on Twitter shows bike riders passing through thick pipes kept at the side of the road, prompting reference to the hyperloop, a futuristic mode of transportation that uses pods to travel at high speeds through low-pressure tubes.”

Then, we noticed a “vishu_bhoir1111” watermark on the viral video. Using this, we found Vishvajeet R Bhoir’s Instagram account, which had the same username. We also found the viral video uploaded here, with a description that it was filmed in Maharashtra on the Bhiwandi-Kalyan route.

According to Vishvajeet’s Facebook profile, he wanted to bring attention to the traffic situation on Kalyan Shilphata Road near Desai village because of the ongoing pipeline construction work. The viral video was also posted by the Saamana e-newspaper and the regional media site Lokmat Kalyan Dombivli.

Thus, it is evident that the viral video has nothing to do with hyperloop or Bengaluru.
