Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda on Monday released the party’s manifesto or vision document for the Karnataka Assembly elections in Bengaluru.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa were also present on the occasion.
Key Promises:
- Implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) based on the suggestions and recommendations provided by the high-level committee.
- Setting up of ‘Atal Aahar Kendra’ in every ward of the municipal corporation for providing healthy and affordable meals.
- Three cooking gas cylinders free of cost for families who fall under the BPL category during the month of Ugadi, Ganesh Utsav, and Diwali.
- To provide half a litre of Nandini milk and 5 kg of Shri Anna for the BPL category household along with the monthly ration kit under the ‘Poshana’ scheme.
- Plan to set up Karnataka Residents’ Welfare Consultative Committee, which will work towards the reformation of the Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act.
- 10 lakh homes sites for homeless people across the state.
- Work on holistic and all-round development of schools under the Vishveshwariah Vidya scheme.
- Setting up of ‘National Register of Citizens’ for a speedy deportation of all illegal immigrants in the state.
The party claimed to have touched every section of society in its previous manifestoes. In its manifesto for the 2018 Assembly polls, the party had included cow protection measures.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already conducted a number of rallies and roadshows, including Mysuru, a traditional JDS bastion. While addressing an election rally in Kolar on Sunday, PM Modi came down heavily on Congress national president Mallikarjuna Kharge over his “poisonous snake” barb at him.
Hitting back over the remark, PM Modi said: “The Congress is clearly disturbed over my ongoing fight against corruption. It has even started threatening me. They are saying ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’ (PM Modi, your grave will be dug). It seems the Congress’s only talking point in these elections is snake poison. They are comparing me to a snake and seeking votes on it. The people of Karnataka are like Lord Shiva to me. I don’t mind being the snake around the necks of people who are like god to me. The people of Karnataka will give them a befitting reply on May 10.” He also labelled the Congress as an “outdated engine”.
The counting of votes for the Karnataka Assembly will be held on May 13.
