Date:

A disturbing post of an old image sitting unconsciously on a bike with certain items to sell lying in front of him is widely shared on social media, claiming that this incident happened recently in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “নিস্তব্ধ !!! (English translation: How many responsibilities were there in his mind? He worked till the last breath keeping his family in mind. He did not underestimate his self-esteem, worked till the end. The heart-breaking incident took place near Jaistambh, Raipur. May his soul rest in peace, and may God protect and bless his family)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.

Doing a Reverse Image Search, we traced a news report by News 18, dated November 13, 2021, carrying images similar to the viral post. “A heart-wrenching incident took place in Sagar’s Katra market (Madhya Pradesh) on Wednesday. A 75-year-old man selling wooden items near Kirti Stambh died of a heart attack at his shop,” reads the article.

Searching further, we found a similar news report by ZEE, dated November 11, 2021. According to the report, an elderly man died on the road while making two rounds of bread for a family in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh. One India also reported the same incident in November 2021, stating that the incident happened in Madhya Pradesh.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old image from Madhya Pradesh is falsely shared as an old man who recently died on a footpath in Raipur.
