Multiple reports of communal violence during the Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal have come up recently. Against this backdrop, a video showing one group of people beating two men with sticks is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the video claiming that the group of men are Muslim and they are beating two Hindus in West Bengal. Many demand President’s Rule in the state.
A Facebook user posted the viral post, with a caption: సెక్యులర్స్…, పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్ లో మీ ప్రియమైన శాంతి రాయబారులు హిందువులను ఎలా చంపుతున్నారో చూడండి, ముస్లిం పేరు రాగానే మీ గొంతులో నాలుక ఇరుక్కుపోతుంది..!! హిందువులను టార్గెట్ చేయడం ఆపండి బెంగాల్లో రాష్ట్రపతి పాలన విధించాలి.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we traced a Facebook post from March 25, 2019, on an unverified account. The video matches exactly with the viral clip and the caption of the video informs that two men were beaten for auto theft. And the clip has been online since 2019.
The same video had been uploaded on some other Facebook pages as well. All the videos were matching the viral clip and the date of publishing of these videos is March 2019. We could not find any communal angle in the video, as the mob were beating these men for stealing autos.
Although we could not find the actual source of the video, it is clear that it has been online since March 2019.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video with a communal angle is misleading.
