Fact Check: Viral Post Showing Police Misbehaving with a Man at Rly Station Is from Mathura, NOT Assam

The video of some people in uniform misbehaving with a man sleeping on the floor of what seems like a railway station is doing the rounds on social media. It claims that the Assam police is misbehaving with a man from Bihar.

The post reads: बिहारियो के साथ असम पुलिस का सलूक। (English translation: Assam Police’s treatment with Biharis)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Reverse Image search through the keyframes of the video, we found the same video uploaded by multiple media outlets on YouTube. As per the reports, the video is from Mathura.

On March 30, 2023, Amar Ujala Uttar Pradesh had uploaded the video with a title:
Mathura News: जीआरपी सिपाहियों ने प्लेटफॉर्म पर लेटे युवक पर चलाई लात | UP News

The same video had also been uploaded by Navbharat Times and Live Hindustan, mentioning that the video was from Mathura.

According to Navbharat Times reports, the videos show GRP (Government Railway Police) constable stepping on the foot of a youth lying at the railway station in Mathura. The report also mentioned that the incident took place on March 08, 2023.

The Superintendent of Police, GRP, Agra, in a tweet, says that an investigation into the matter has been launched and both the GRP personnel have been suspended.

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the video is from Mathura, not Assam.
