Our Family Nurtured Democracy Of This Country With Their Blood: Priyanka Gandhi Lashes Out At BJP

New Delhi: The Congress is organising a day-long ‘Sankalap Satyagraha’ on Sunday in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi in front of Gandhi statues at all states and district headquarters to protest against his disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP following his conviction in a 2019 defamation case.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Senior Congress leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh arrived at Raj Ghat, Delhi for the mass protest despite the restrictions.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday lashed out on the ruling BJP and vowed to keep fighting for the people at the party’s Sankalap Satyagraha to protest against the move to disqualify her brother and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

“Who thinks that they can silence us by scaring and humiliating us? Listen, we will not stop, I will see to it that the hard-earned money of the public is not being looted and given to few people,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a hard-hitting attack on the ruling party at the Centre.

“You (BJP) talk about ‘Pariwarvaad’, I want to ask who was Lord Ram? Was he Pariwarvaadi, or were Pandavas Pariwarvaadi? Should we be ashamed because my family fought for the country? My family has nurtured the democracy of this country with their blood.” she said.

My father was insulted in the Parliament, my brother has been given names like Meer Jafar. Your ministers insult my mother in the Parliament. One of your CM said Rahul Gandhi does not even know who his father is, but no action is taken against these people.”

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, the Congress leader said that such people are not disqualified from the Parliament.

“Such people are not disqualified from the Parliament, they are not sent to jail, and they are not stopped from contesting elections for years. They have insulted my family a lot of times, but we kept quiet,” she continued.

“My brother went to PM Modi and hugged him in the Parliament and said I have no hatred for you. We might have different ideologies but we do not have the ideology of hatred,” the Congress General Secretary said at Raj Ghat.

“The person who filed complaint against Rahul Gandhi in Surat, went to Court & asked to put a stay on his case for 1 yr but after Rahul Gandhi gave speech in Parliament on Adani, he reopened the case. Within 1 month, hearing was done & Rahul was convicted.”

Rahul Gandhi has changed the status on his Twitter handle and it now reads ”Dis’Qualified MP’.
