Fact Check: Image Showing Snow-covered Wall Is from Japan, NOT California

An image of a snow-covered huge wall is widely shared on social media claiming that it is Lake Tahoe in California, US. According to news reports, unexpected snowfall blanked several homes, cars, and roads in Lake Tahoe

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “March 9, 2023 Lake Tahoe, California Record snow pack”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING. 

Doing a simple Reverse Image Search, we identified a blog carrying the same viral image in 2013 with a text: “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route snow wall season is from April 16 to June 10.”

We also found several similar images uploaded on AP Images showing the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in Japan. 

A similar video of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in Japan had also been uploaded on a YouTube channel on January 21, 2019. 

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral image of the snow-covered wall is not from California.
