An image showing a group of people holding a flag is widely shared on social media, claiming that Karnataka has announced its separate and independent flag.
The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਤੇ ਅਜ਼ਾਦ ਝੰਡੇ ਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਐਲਾਨ ।ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਸਨੀਕੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੁਣ ਕੀ ਉਡੀਕਦੇ ਜੇ” (English translation: Karnataka announced its separate and independent flag. Residents of five rivers, what are you waiting for?)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Running a Reverse Image Search, we found a news report in The News Minute, dated March 8, 2018, carrying the same viral image with a headline: “Karnataka flag unveiled: Yellow, white and red with state emblem in the middle.”
According to another news report by Kannada media, the idea of having its own official flag for Karnataka was mooted during Congress rule under the leadership of Siddaramaiah. Some changes were made to this new flag. It was the official flag of Kannada designed by Ramamurthy. It later became customary to hoist this flag at ‘Kannada Rajyatsav’ (State Building Day) and cultural events.
As per other media reports, the Siddaramaiah government issued a new flag on March 8, 2018, but the Central government rejected this demand. According to a Deccan Herald report, in 2019, as the Centre rejected the proposal of a new flag for the state, the BS Yeddyurappa government decided to withdraw its decision regarding the state flag.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral claim is misleading.
