A viral video showing US President Joe Biden being confronted by a US Air Force veteran for his support for the 2002 Iraq invasion is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the video, comparing Biden with Putin.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption:
As the west is talking of Putin being a war criminal, one must hear a US Air Force veteran who fought in Iraq war.
“Millions are dead in Iraq. We actually fought in your damn wars. You sent us to hurt civilians.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we identified a tweet, dated March 4, 2020, on an unverified Twitter handle ‘About Face: Veterans Against the War’. The video in the tweet matches exactly with the viral clip and the caption informs that the incident happened in Oakland when Biden was campaigning for his presidential bid. This proves that the video has been online since March 2020.
We found a report on the same incident published on About Face’s blog on Medium – an American online publishing platform, on the same day. The blog informs that the veteran in the video is Michael Thurman and he openly criticises Biden for supporting the war in Iraq.
Finally, we came across a news report in Independent showing the same video and corroborating the claim that it is from Biden’s campaign event in Oakland, California on March 3, 2020.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video claiming Biden was recently confronted by a veteran for supporting the Iraq war is misleading.
