A picture claiming that the American government has put a poster of B R Ambedkar on its longest-distance covering train is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the image criticising the Indian government for not doing anything like that. Some also criticised the media for not reporting this news in India.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption: जो का भारत नहीं कर सका वह काम अमरीका ने करके दिखाया अमरीका की सबसे लम्बी दूरी की ट्रेन पे बाबासाहब का पोस्टर लगाया गया ? मगर भारत की मनुवादी मीडिया यह खबर नहीं दिखाएगी जय भीम (English translation: What India could not do, America did that work, Babasaheb’s poster was put on America’s longest distance train. Looking closely at the picture, we realised that the train looks like an Indian metro. Moreover, if the US government did something this big, it would have made news everywhere. We could not find any credible source of news confirming the viral claim.
Also, a news article in Metro Rail News, dated September 3, 2020 and titled: Piling work for Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line begins, informs about developments in the Delhi metro.
Although the image in the article is used for representation purposes only, it matches the viral image (except for Ambedkar’s photo in the front). This indicates that the latter has been edited to spread misinformation.
Another news article in ABP Live, dated February 20, 2017, carries the picture used for Delhi Metro which matches the viral image.
The image has been used as a representation of the Delhi Metro in many other news articles for media houses like Zee Business, Web Duniya, and India TV. We could not find BR Ambedkar’s image on the train anywhere on the web.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral image claiming the US government has announced to put BR Ambedkar’s poster on their long-journey train is false.
