Fact Check: Image from Balochistan Fictitiously Shared As Indian Muslim Family with a Communal Angle

Date:

An image of a Muslim family is doing the rounds on social media. The picture is being shared criticising the entire community for actively increasing their population in India. It is claimed that the man in the image is 75 years old truck driver named Abdul, and he is running a small colony of about 150 family members, including his six wives and 54 children. Many users claim that if they are increasing their population then it is their responsibility to pay taxes and take care of them and not feed off of Hindu taxpayers’ money.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption: ఒక్క కుటుంబమే కాలినీని ఏర్పాటు చేసుకుంది భారతదేశ ప్రజలందరూ వీళ్ళని పోషించాలి టాక్స్లు కట్టి రాజకీయ నాయకులు కూడా వీళ్ళకే అండ పలుకుతున్నారు మన రాజ్యాంగం కూడా వీళ్ళకే భద్రత కల్పించింది (English translation: Only one family has established a colony. All the people of India have to support them. Even the politicians paying taxes are supporting these people. Our Constitution has also provided security for them.)

You can check the post here.

The content in the image translates to: Seventy-five years old Abdul is a truck driver and runs a small colony with 150 people along with six wives, 54 children and brothers.

He died..

They want to support Ma Abdul Colony…

It is their turn to raise children, it is our turn to pay taxes and take care of them..

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found the claims to be misleading.

Running a Google Keyword Search to know whether such a family even exists or not, we spotted a news article in The Kashmir Monitor, dated December 13, 2022 and titled: Baloch man with 54 children, six wives dies of heart attack

According to the article, the man in the picture is named Abdul Majeed Mengal having six wives and 54 children is from the Balochistan province of Pakistan, not India. Abdul died of a heart attack while on his way to the district headquarters hospital in Noshki, Balochistan.

We found the news of the passing away of Mengal on BBC Telugu and Amar Ujala as well.

We also came across a video feature from 2018 about Abdul and his family on Daily Mail. The report corroborates the claim that Abdul is from Balochistan.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture, claiming to show an Indian Muslim man’s family of 120 with 54 children and six wives, is misleading.
