Fact Check: Claim About Movie ‘The Bear’ Nominated for Guinness Book of World Records Is Misleading

Date:

The video showing a lioness chasing the bear is widely shared on social media, claiming that it has been nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records.

The video is shared on social media with a caption: “This video is nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records. Amazing effort by the videographer.”

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, we traced a YouTube channel carrying the same viral video on October 31, 2007, with a caption: “L’Ours (1988) the cougar scene.”

“The Bear” was originally called “L’Ours” and directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. When we looked to see if the movie “The Bear” was included in the Guinness Book of World Records, we were unable to locate it in any of the categories on the website.

“The Bear” received nominations for many Academy, BAFTA, and other honours categories. Even at the 1990 Genesis Awards, the movie took home the prize for best feature. But the movie had never been included in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Thus, it is clear that the viral claim stating that the video clip was nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records is false.
