Fact Check: Old Picture of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann with Raja Warring Viral with Misleading Claims

A picture showing Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann with State Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the image claiming it to be recent and alleging that Congress leaders are all associated with Aam Aadmi Party. This comes on the back of allegations against Warring for orchestrating a scam of ₹60 crore in the bus bodies when he was the state transport minister.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption: ਅੱਜ ਫਿਰ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਕੁੱਤੀ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਗਈ! (English translation: Today it was proved again that this Congress dog mixed with thieves!)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the picture, we identified a tweet on the official handle of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, dated March 17, 2022. One of the pictures in the tweet matches the viral post and the caption informs that Warring, along with his wife, met Mann to congratulate him for becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab.

We found the same images tweeted by Man Aman Singh Chhina, a reporter with The Indian Express on the same day and with the same claim that Warring met Mann to congratulate him on becoming the CM.

Another article in India Today, dated April 10, 2022 and titled: Congress names Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as its new Punjab chief, and Bajwa as CLP leader. The image used in the article matches with the viral picture proving that it is not recent.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture, claiming that Congress leader Amarinder Singh Brar (Raja Warring) is associated with AAP, is misleading.
