FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video, and found it to be old.

In the video, we could see EastMojo logo in the top left corner.

The same video was uploaded on the YouTube channel of EastMojo on October 27, 2020. The headline of the report reads: “Assam youths brandish swords during bike rally; one admits to be member of Bajrang Dal.”

According to the report, a group of around 70 men took out a bike rally with swords and axes in their hands in Tinsukia in October 2020. The procession was reportedly taken out on the occasion of ‘Ashtra Poojan’. However, ‘according to the officials, no permission was taken from authorities to carry out such a rally and the local police was left surprised to see the sword-clad bikers roaming around the town.’

According to a TOI report, dated October 28, 2020, ‘The police managed to intercept the bikers while they were proceeding towards Hijuguri from Thana Chariali area of the town. While most of the bikers managed to flee, four of them were detained and taken to the police station.’

“We had detained four youths for taking out the rally. They have identified themselves as Bajrang Dal members. They had no permission for the rally. Many of the members of the rally were pillion riding, though there was a restriction on men pillion riding on motorbikes during the Durga puja days. Action will be taken against them as per law,” TOI quoted a police officer as saying.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the viral video is from 2020, and not a recent one from Tamil Nadu.
