FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and, found it to be misleading.

Running the keyframes from the viral video through a Reverse Image Search, we spotted a Kerala Police statement, dated February 18, 2023, which clarifies: “The video that is going viral on social media now is from the incident that took place in Cherussery in Thrissur district in December 2022. Police action has begun.”

Searching further, we found a news report in Asianet News, dated February 18, 2023, with a caption: “The father said that he attacked his son because he could not bear it; The incident took place in December and the police said that no complaint had been received.” The caption also states this incident happened in December 2022.

Another news article by ManromaOnline had also reported the same incident. The report states: “A POCSO case will be filed against the lorry driver for allegedly trying to molest a class 10 student. The child’s statement was recorded by the police. After the footage of the child’s father beating the driver was circulated on social media, the police are investigating the action.” According to the report, the incident happened on December 4, 2022.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that video from Kerala is now being shared with misleading claims.
