Fact Check: Viral Video in Question Is from Mexico, NOT Japan

Date:

Against the backdrop of a recent earthquake in Turkey, which claimed over 40,000 lives, a video has surfaced on Internet in which the murder of crows can be seen in a neighbourhood, claiming that the strange behaviour was a suspicion of something like an extreme-weather event. The video is claimed to be from Japan.

The caption reads: “THOUSANDS OF CROWS MYSTERIOUSLY GATHER AT A JAPANESE ISLAND NEAR KYOTO: WATCH”

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post, and found it to be false.

Putting the keyframes of the video through a Reverse Image Search, we found an article in a Mexican publication, dated January 26, 2023, featuring a picture identical to the screengrab from the video in question.

Upon translating the article from Spanish to English, it stated that hundreds of birds invaded houses in Mexico.

The MSN Video carries a clearer version of the video showing the licence plate of one of the vehicles inscribed with ‘Guanajuato’ a central Mexican state.

Hence, the above findings establish that the video in question is from Mexico and NOT Japan.
