Fact Check: Viral Image of the Canine Is Not Related to Earthquake in Turkey

Amid the deadly earthquake in Turkey on February 6, 2023, a heart-wrenching picture has surfaced on Internet showing a dog sitting near a human hand coming out of the debris.

The caption reads: “Heart-breaking photo of the day”, suggesting that the picture is from the recent earthquake in Turkey.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post, and found it to be misleading.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture on the official website of the stock photo agency iStock by Getty.

As per the description, the picture in question was posted on January 4, 2019.

The same picture was also found on the official website of Getty Images giving the location tag Czech Republic.

While NewsMobile cannot independently establish the origin of the picture, the above findings confirm that the image in question is at least four years old.
