New Delhi: Amid the spree of job cuts globally, Tech-giant Dell Technologies Inc., will reportedly lay off 6,650 jobs, or 5% of its global workforce.
According to a memo viewed by Bloomberg, Jeff Clarke, Co-Chief Operating Officer, said that Dell is experiencing market conditions that “continue to erode with an uncertain future”.
The reduction will amount to 5% of the global workforce. The report further added that the company after a ‘pandemic-era PC boom’ reported a sharp drop in computer shipment in the fourth quarter of 2022.
According to an Industry analyst IDC report, Dell recorded the largest decline of 37% compared to the same period in 2021. The company generated 55% of its revenue from the Personal computers segment.
The company spokesperson as quoted by Bloomberg added that “Clarke told workers that previous cost-cutting measures, including a pause on hiring and limits on travel, are no longer enough. The department reorganisations, along with the job reductions, are viewed as an opportunity to drive efficiency”.
The layoffs in the tech industry continue as companies like HP Inc., announced layoff of 6,000 workers in November last year.
