Fact Check: Old Viral Video of a Heavy Hailstorm Is from Nepal, NOT Udaipur in India

Video of a heavy hailstorm is doing the rounds on social media claiming that the visuals are from Udaipur.

The post reads: दोस्तों उदयपुर में हुई बारिश और ओले पडे है 250gm, पुरी फसल खत्म हो गया है और वह अभी तक भी नहीं (English translation: Friends, there is rain and hail in Udaipur, 250gm, the whole crop is over and it is not yet)

FACT CHECK 

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found that the video is not from Udaipur.

Running a Reverse Image Search on the keyframes of the video, we found that the video was shared by a Facebook page AajTak Nepal on April 21, 2020. The video caption mentions that it is from Chitwan, a district in Nepal.

The video also had the TikTok watermark which reads @diwakarbartaula.

 

The Facebook page of Diwakar Bartaula had shared the same video on Facebook on April 18, 2020.

In the comments, he also shared a link to the YouTube video dated April 30, 2020, confirming that the video is from Nepal.

The video shows the viral video of the hailstorm followed by another video of the same location. In the video, he introduces himself as Diwakar Bartaula and then says that the viral hailstorm video was shot by him at Gadauli village in the Chitwan district of Nepal.

Thus, based on the above fact check, it is clear that it is an old video from Nepal and NOT Udaipur.
