Curtains Down For Congress’ 4000 Km Bharat Jodo Yatra: Rahul Gandhi Talks Of Love Over Hate

Date:

Srinagar: The curtains have come down on Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra on Monday with a closing ceremony at the party headquarters in Sher-e-Kashmir.

The yatra which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7 last year, covered 4,080 km through 12 states and two union territories and culminated in Srinagar, Jammu And Kashmir on Monday.

At the culmination event, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hoisted the National flag at Congress office in Srinagar in the presence of party leaders Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Rahul Gandhi addresses closing ceremony of Bharat Jodo Yatra said,  “I learned a lot. One day, I was in a lot of pain. I thought I’ve to walk for 6-7 hrs more & it’ll be difficult. But a young girl came running to me & said that she has written something for me. She hugged me & ran away. I started reading it,”

“She wrote, “I can see your knee is hurting because when you put pressure on that leg, it shows on your face. I can’t walk with you but I’m walking beside you from my heart because I know you’re walking for me & my future. Right at that moment,my pain vanished.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hailed Rahul Gandhi for successfully completing the yatra, she said, “My brother walked for 4-5 months from Kanniyakumari. Wherever they went, people came out for them. Why? Because there still remains a passion in this country-for the county, for this land, for its diversity that resides in the hearts of all Indians.”

Talking about the yatra’s last leg which was in the union territory, Priyanka said, “When my brother was coming to Kashmir, he sent a message to my mother and me. He said he has a unique feeling of going home. He said his family members are waiting for him. They come and hug him with tears in their eyes and their pain and emotions are entering his own heart.”

While addressing the closing ceremony, Mehbooba Mufti said “Rahul, you said you’ve come to Kashmir your home. It’s your home. I hope what the Godse ideology snatched from J&K, from this nation will be restored. Gandhi ji said he can see a ray of hope in J&K. Today, nation can see a ray of hope in Rahul Gandhi.”

Omar Abdullah while addressing said, “It has been a very successful yatra. Nation needed this. It has proven that there are people who like BJP and there are people who want a new Govt except BJP, who want harmony and want to live in peace and love with each other, something which the BJP can’t give.”

The closing ceremony was followed by a rally led by Rahul Gandhi at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium where several opposition leaders joined the Congress leaders.

The Congress had invited around 21 key non-NDA parties to join the culmination of the yatra, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharat Rashtriya Samithi (formerly TRS). Leaders of the DMK, National Conference, PDP, CPI, RSP and IUML joined the rally to mark the culmination of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
