We Celebrate What We Achieved As A Nation: President Murmu On The Eve Of 74th Republic Day

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu in her address to the nation on the eve of 74th Republic Day, recounted the achievements of the country over the years as a nation.

Extending greetings of 74th Republic Day to the nation, President Droupadi Murmu in her address said that “When we celebrate the Republic Day, we celebrate what we have achieved, together, as a nation.”

In her first address as President on the eve of Republic Day, President Murmu said India has succeeded as a democratic republic because so many creeds and languages ‘have not divided us but have united us’.

The President said that the Constitution that started governing the life of the Republic was the outcome of the freedom struggle. “The national movement, led by Mahatma Gandhi, was as much about winning Independence as about rediscovering our own ideals,” she said.

Highlighting the importance of G20 Presidency of India, President Murmu said that “As G20 represents about two-thirds of the world population and around 85% of global GDP, it is an ideal forum to discuss and find solutions for global challenges. To my mind, global warming and climate change are the most pressing among them.”

Talking about the achievements of women of the country, President Murmu added that “Women’s empowerment and gender equality are no longer mere slogans, as we have made great progress towards these ideals in recent years. I have no doubt in my mind that women are the ones who will do the most to shape tomorrow’s India.”

President Murmu further highlighted how India has emerged as the fifth largest economy in the world. She said “It needs to be underlined that this achievement comes against the backdrop of high economic uncertainties around the world.”.

President Murmu also highlighted the efforts of citizens when India was in the midst of a global pandemic. She said “By implementing the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’ announced in March 2020, the Government ensured food security for poor families at a time when the country was facing economic disruption in the wake of the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19.”

She also highlighted the achievement of the ‘Gaganyaan’ mission carried out by ISRO which will take Indian astronauts into space, making it India’s maiden human space flight.

President further failed the efforts of farmers, doctors, engineers and every citizen who contribute towards nation’s progress.
