New Delhi: Boxing legend Mary Kom has been named as the Chairperson for the sports ministry’s Oversight Committee to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India amid alleged allegations of sexual harassment against WFI President by top wrestlers.
Earlier, the ministry directed WFI to suspend all the ongoing activities carried out by the federation with immediate effect post allegations.
The panel headed by Mary Kom is also tasked to “enquire into the allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment and/ or intimidation, financial irregularities and administrational lapses leveled by prominent sportspersons.”
The panel also includes Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, Trupti Murgunde, Radhica Sreeman, and Rajesh Rajagopalan as members.
The panel is tasked with completing the inquiry of the alleged charges within a span of four weeks.
Recently eminent wrestlers including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia, protested in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar bringing allegations of sexual harassment against WFI president Brij Bhushan Charan Singh.
