Fact Check: Did Ronaldo Say He Loves Islam the Most in the World? Here’s the Truth

Date:

Cristiano Ronaldo recently signed two-and-a-half years deal with the Saudi Club Al Nassr after mutually parting ways with Manchester United. The move surprised the fans as this would be Ronaldo’s first non-European club.

Against this backdrop, a viral image of Ronaldo giving an interview to a hijab-clad woman presenter is doing the rounds on social media. Users have shared the picture claiming Ronaldo said that he loves Islam the most in the entire world.

A Facebook user posted the viral picture with a caption: माशाल्लाह सऊदी अरब की इस #मुसलमान महिला ने क्रिस्टियानो रोनाल्डो से एक सवाल पूछा. #रोनाल्डो आप सबसे ज्यादा किससे प्यार करते हो, क्रिस्टियानो रोनाल्डो ने कहा, मैं #इस्लाम से प्यार करता हूं। #अल्लाहुअकबर (English translation: Mashallah! This Muslim woman from Saudi Arabia asked a question to Cristiano Ronaldo. #Ronaldo Who do you love the most, Cristiano Ronaldo said, I love #Islam. #Allah O Akbar)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral picture, and found it to be false.

Doing a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, we found an article on Expo 2020 Dubai in Gulf News, dated January 28, 2022. The article, titled: Fans enjoy fab time with Ronaldo at Expo 2020 Dubai, contains the exact image as the one that is viral.

According to the article, the image is from Ronaldo’s interview with Marjan Faraidooni, Chief Experience Officer at Dubai Expo 2022. We could not find anything related to Islam or Ronaldo claiming Islam to be his favourite in the world throughout the article.

Conducting a YouTube Keyword Search to check for the interview, we identified a video titled: Cristiano Ronaldo 🇵🇹🐐 visits Expo 2020 Dubai (inspirational), published on an unverified channel named CR7 BOUND.

The video contains the full interview and here, too, Ronaldo has not given any statement related to Islam.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture, claiming it to be from an interview where Ronaldo accepted that he loves Islam the most in the world, is false.
