A Facebook user posted the viral picture with a caption: नरेंद्र मोदीजी जब पहली बार गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री बने थे तब उनके शपथ ग्रहण समारोह में माँ हीराबेन शामिल हुई थी। यह उसी दिन, 7 OCT, 2001 की प्यारी तस्वीर हैं। (English translation: When Narendra Modiji became Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time, mother Heeraben attended his swearing-in ceremony. NewsMobile fact-checked the viral picture, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, we identified a blog post, dated June 18, 2022, on Modi’s official website.
One of the pictures in the blog matches exactly with the viral image. Speaking about his mother, he informs that his mother was present in only two political functions in his entire political career. This picture is from the first ever event that she attended when he returned from Srinagar after completing the Ekta Yatra and she applied Tilak to him at a public function in Ahmedabad. Checking about Ekta Yatra, we got to know that it started on December 11, 1991, and concluded on January 26, 1992, in Srinagar.
We found the same picture published on December 30 2022, in a tweet by a verified account named Modi Archive — an account narrating the life journey of PM Narendra Modi through archival pictures, videos, audio recordings, etc. Here too, the image is from January 1992, after Modi’s return from the Ekta Yatra.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral claim is misleading.
