The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Messi and Argentina are always the best)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture, and found it to be FALSE. 

Doing a Reverse Image Search, we traced a news report published by Daily Mail, dated October 14, 2020, carrying the original image.

The article headline reads: “Portugal 3-0 Sweden: Bernardo Silva and Diogo Jota goals see hosts stay top of Nations League Group A3 as captain Cristiano Ronaldo watches on at home after positive Covid-19 test.” According to the report, “No Cristiano Ronaldo, no issue for Portugal as they easily defeated Sweden in their Nations League match on Wednesday night”. Ronaldo had watched the game from home after testing positive for coronavirus, it was further said.

The original image had been carried by US Sun on October 16, 2020, with a caption: “The Portuguese megastar is currently isolating with coronavirus.”

The Instagram handle of Ronaldo has also uploaded the original image, dated October 15, 2020, with a caption: “It’s like you’re there! Let’s go Malta! Strength Portugal.”
