Delhi Acid Attack: DCW Sends Notice To Amazon, Flipkart Over Sale of Acid

Date:

New Delhi: The three men allegedly accused of throwing acid on a 17-year-old school girl, had reportedly ordered the chemical from the e-commerce website Flipkart.

Delhi Commission for Women on Thursday sent notices to both Flipkart and Amazon over the easy availability of Acid on their websites despite the ban on the sale of chemical acid by the Supreme Court of India.

According to reports, Delhi Police has further confirmed that the acid was bought by one of the accused from Flipkart and the payment for the purchase was made through the e-wallet.

The notice ordered the sites to provide a complete list of sellers who have placed ‘acid’ as a product on the respective platforms.

DCW has further sought an explanation if the photo IDs of the purchaser were asked before completing the delivery. The commission has sought detailed reports from both websites by 20th December, 2022.

Earlier, two men on a bike threw acid on a Class 12 girl who was on her way to school in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka region.

The police have further arrested three individuals allegedly involved in the gruesome act within 12 hours of the incident.
