Goa: At the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Monday, the festival’s jury head Nadav Lapid expressed dismay over allowing The Kashmir Files into the competition section in a criticizing speech.

Followed by the criticism, a practicing Supreme Court lawyer filed a police complaint in Goa on Tuesday, for allegedly abusing Hindu community sacrifice made in Kashmir by calling the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ as ‘vulgar’ and ‘propaganda,’ also demanding an apology.

Shiv Sena MPs Priyanka Chaturvedi and Sanjay Raut also weighed in on the row, with the former tweeting “it is obvious… that Lapid at no point denied the Kashmiri Pandit exodus or dismissed it.” She said the filmmaker’s comment were only about the “way the film treated the subject” and “made it a propaganda” production. Raut claimed the movie “was propaganda by one party…”

Israeli envoy to India Naor Gilon also slammed the IFFI Jury Head and apologised for the conduct of his countryman; in a series of tweets, rebuked Lapid and emphasized how the friendship between the people and the states of India and Israel is very strong and will survive the damage inflicted by him.

Israeli screenwriter and filmmaker Nadav Lapid, made remarks on Monday night, at the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). “We were all of us disturbed and shocked by the 15th film, The Kashmir Files, that felt to us like a propaganda, vulgar movie inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.” He continued, “I feel totally comfortable to share openly these feelings here with you on stage since the spirit of the festival can truly accept also a critical discussion, which is essential for art and for life.”
