New Delhi: As the preparation for Republic Day kickstarts, India has invited Egyptian President General Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the Chief Guest for the parade in 2023.
The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement added that “At the invitation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, H.E. Mr. Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, will be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2023.”
The statement further added that India and Egypt have “warm and friendly relations” based on civilizational and deep-rooted people-to-people ties. Both countries will be marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
India has further invited Egypt as the ‘guest country’ during India’s G20 presidency in 2022-23 as India assumes the presidency on December 1.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar visited Egypt to review the bilateral ties between the two nations.
During the visit, he held a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry where they discussed the Ukraine conflict and Indo-Pacific ties.
