Rahul Gandhi Now Looks Like Saddam Hussein, Says Himanta Sarma; Congress Hits Back

Date:

Ahmedabad: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his bearded appearance and compared his resemblance with former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

During a campaign rally, Assam Chief Minister said that “If he (Rahul Gandhi) wanted to change his looks, why did not he choose to look like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel or Jawaharlal Nehru? Even Gandhi ji’s look would have been better, but why is he changing his face to look like Saddam Hussein now?”

He further slammed Rahul and said that the Bharat Jodo Yatra is visiting places where there are no elections.

When asked about Sarma’s remark during a press conference, Congress leader Manish Tewari said, “In public life, it is very important that we maintain the decorum of language and propriety. The Chief Minister of Assam, unfortunately, sounds like a petty troll when he articulates sentences of this kind.”

Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah termed the comment as a ‘stunt’ and added “You (Assam CM) just want a headline and you get that only when you take Rahul Gandhi’s name. Himanta Biswa Sarma can say anything. He can go to any level for power. We don’t pay attention to such statements.”
