Mount Maunganui: Suryakumar Yadav hits a ton as India beats New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20I match on Sunday.
Put to bat first, India got off to a steady start as their openers Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant scored 36 runs in 5 overs without losing a wicket. However, the partnership between the two was broken by Lockie Ferguson as the New Zealand pacer sent Pant packing after scoring 6 off 13.
Suryakumar destroyed the Kiwi bowling lineup with his fearless batting, smashing an unbeaten 111 in just 51 balls with help of 11 fours and seven sixes. He struck the ball at an astonishing strike rate of 217.64.
With this, he became the second Indian batter after Rohit Sharma to score two centuries in T20Is during a calendar year.
Skipper Kane Williamson managed to score 61 runs but the innings went in vain as the Kiwis failed to score big.
Deepak Hooda picked four wickets in his spell, while Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal secured two wickets each.
