Fact Check: Viral Video Showing a Dog Waking Up Due to Tremors in Delhi-NCR Is Misleading

Date:

The video of a dog waking up and wandering around is widely shared on social media, linking it to the recent earthquake in Delhi and adjoining areas. According to media reports, at least six people were killed when a severe earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck Nepal in the early morning hours of November 6. Although this earthquake was felt in Delhi and the nearby areas, there were no fatalities or significant setbacks.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “#CCTV footage of #Delhi #earthquake”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Our fact-finding team found a YouTube channel that carried the same viral video on January 21, 2021, with a caption: “Magnitude 7.1 Davao earthquake.” This clearly means that the video is not related to the recent earthquake in Delhi-NCR.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, or Phivolcs, reported about this earthquake on January 21, 2021, stating that it was a magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck the waters off Jose Abad Santos town in Davao Occidental, with strong intensities felt in some parts of Mindanao.

We were not able to verify the location of the viral video. And it is clear from the above information that the viral video is quite old and not related to the recent earthquake in  Delhi-NCR.
