Washington: The total cost of US Midterm Elections will exceed $16.7 billion (around ₹1,301,666,464,000), making it the most expensive election in the history of the country.
According to a report by OpenSecrets, the spending of this year has already exceeded the 2018 midterm spending of $7.1 billion.
The report further added that state-level races are likely to overtake the 2018 midterm election’s document spending of $6.6 billion.
Taken together, the $16.7 billion includes spending by political motions committee, political candidates, get-together committees, PACs, and other types of organizations advocating towards candidates contesting in the elections.
The report added that the spending, for perspective, will be close to or lower than the annual budget of many US states like Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Vermont, Iowa, Rhode Island, Alaska, and Hawaii.
The report further claimed that the costliest races are the US Senate races of Georgia and Pennsylvania, as the seats play a crucial role and may shift the stability of the Senate. The OpenSecrets has further stated that the fundraising pattern in this election has been irregular.
