On November 3, an unidentified gunman opened fire at a protest march in Pakistan, injuring Imran Khan, former prime minister of Pakistan. In Pakistan’s Punjab province, shots were fired at the container-mounted vehicle carrying Imran Khan. According to recent reports, Imran Khan is out of danger.
Against this backdrop, a video showing Imran Khan talking to media at a hospital is being linked to the recent assassination attempt.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption, “بریکنگ نیوز لونگ مارچ کے دوران عمران خان گولی لگہی قوم کے لئے بہت ہی افسوس ناک خبر” (English translation: Breaking News Imran Khan was shot during the Long March, very sad news for the nation)
Here’s the link to the above post.
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Running a Reverse Image Search, we found a verified YouTube handle of The Telegraph which carried glimpses of the viral video on May 8, 2013. The video description reads: “Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan says it is time for the people to “decide whether they want to make a new Pakistan”, as he is interviewed from his hospital bed after falling off a mechanical lift raising him onto a stage at a rally.”
The same video can also be viewed on Euronews’ YouTube channel uploaded on May 8, 2013. According to information, Pakistani politician Imran Khan was injured during a rally in Lahore.
According to another article published on the Voice of America Urdu website, dated May 7, 2013, “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan used an elevator on the stage during a rally in Lahore.” While climbing through, he fell down and got injured. Imran sustained injuries on his head and has been shifted to the hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
Thus, it is clear that an old video is being falsely linked to the recent assassination attempt on former Pakistan PM Imran Khan.
