The political tension in Gujarat intensifies as the elections are inching closer. Against this backdrop, a viral video of a man allegedly exposing the BJP leaders — Narendra Modi and Amit Shah — is doing the rounds on social media. Many online users have shared the video, claiming that the man is the current MLA of BJP itself.
A Facebook user posted the viral video with a caption: गुजरात भाजपा के विधायक ने मोदी की राजनीति की पोल खोल दी! (English translation: Gujarat BJP MLA exposed Modi’s politics!)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be misleading.
We came across this viral video over multiple social media platforms. Analysing the videos on Twitter, we traced a tweet by Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan, containing the same viral video, published on October 26, 2022. Bhushan, too, claims that the person in the video is a BJP MLA from Gujarat, and that he is exposing BJP’s politics.
We also came across a reply by Sparsh Upadhyay, a journalist, currently working with Live Law India. In the reply, Sparsh has mentioned that the man in the video is a senior advocate Yatin Oza and the clip is from 2017, when he interviewed him while working for a news portal Jan Chowk. He clarifies that the video is five years old and not a recent statement by Oza.
Conducting a Google Keyword Search to know more about the said interview, we found a YouTube video, titled: मोदी-शाह पर यतिन ओजा का सनसनीखेज खुलासा-2, published on the official channel of Jan Chowk, dated December 12, 2017.
The video keyframes match exactly with the viral video and the description of the video informs us that Oza had been the mentor and political guru to Amit Shah, and he was also a senior advocate in the Gujarat High Court at the time of giving the interview.
We also came across another YouTube video on the same channel. The video, titled: गुजरात हाईकोर्ट के वरिष्ठ वकील यतिन ओजा का साक्षात्कार, seems like the full length clip of the interview. The interviewer introduces himself as Sparsh Upadhyay and Oza as a designated senior advocate, and an ex-MLA of Gujarat. The keyframes from 35:51 to 38:23 match exactly with the viral clip.
We found that Oza joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2016 after leaving BJP. We could not find any association of Oza with BJP in recent times.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video claiming a BJP MLA allegedly exposed Modi and Shah, is misleading.
