A statement attributed to former US president Donald Trump is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that he issued a statement to congratulate Elon Musk after the latter took over Twitter.
The statement, dated October 27, 2022, had the masthead of Save America. It reads: “Congratulations to Elon Musk on his purchase of Twitter. Many people say that change is needed, as the old management is too concerned with the woke agenda. I have been told that my account will be activated on Monday — we will see. Happy to be able to engage with an African-American owned business!”

We found reports about Trump hailing the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk on his Truth Social account. Truth Social is a Twitter-like platform run by the Trump Media & Technology Group. “I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
A tweet by News Agency ANI states that they had erroneously posted the above statement and are retracting the tweet as it is false. “Tweet retracted. No statement from Donald Trump on Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has been released. This was a fake statement circulating. Error regretted, ” the tweet reads.
