Many social media users have shared the images of Empire State Building in New York, US. The photo shows the building lit up with Goddess Kali’s portrait on the occasion of Diwali.
The caption associated with the image reads: “দীপাবলি উপলক্ষে নিউইয়র্কের ‘এম্পায়ার স্টেট বিল্ডিং’ -এ দেবী কালীর প্রদর্শন ।।” (English translation: “New York on the occasion of Diwali. Devi Kali’s exhibition in ‘Empire State Building'”)

NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be misleading.
Doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found one of the images uploaded by OneIndia News on its YouTube channel, dated August 10, 2015. The description associated with the video reads: “Goddess Kali, the epitome of tremendous power and strength took over on the Empire State Building in New York. The breath-taking artwork was displayed by filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and his team as a part of Projecting Change, a project which uses the Empire State Building as a canvas. It was meant to spark awareness of massive wildlife extinction, and to draw attention to the alarming rate at which species are dying.”
The images had also been shared by The Times of India on August 10, 2015, with a headline: “Goddess Kali projected on New York’s Empire State Building.”
FirstPost also reported about the incident. According to the report, “Artist Android Jones designed the fierce portrait of Kali, who is the Goddess of Time, Change, Power and Destruction, to make the point that Mother Nature now more than ever needs a fierce avataar to fight the dangers of pollution and extinction.”
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
