Fact Check: Did Pak Minister Bilawal Bhutto Recently Visit the Temple on Diwali? Here’s the Truth

A video of Pakistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan Peoples Party President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praying in a temple is being circulated on the social media, claiming that he recently visited a temple on the occasion of Diwali.

Facebook users have shared the video with a caption: “Bilawal Bhutto, son of Benazir Bhutto and current Minster of External Affairs of Pakistan, performing pooja at Siva temple and making a speech about celebrating Diwali. World is changing, but the separatists within our country won’t change.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be old.

Running a keyword search, we found a report by Asianet News Hindi featuring the same video.

The report, dated February 23, 2021, has mentioned that the viral video was taken in 2016 when Bilawal Bhutto went to a temple on the occasion of Diwali.

The same video had been uploaded by News 24 on its YouTube channel on November 5, 2016, with a title: “Bilawal Bhutto’s offering to Lord Shiva on Diwali at Karachi temple”.

A similar video had been also uploaded on the official Twitter account of the Pakistan Peoples Party, dated October 31, 2016, with a caption: “On the eve of #Diwali: Chairman #PPP @BBhuttoZardari visits Shiv Mandir Karachi and takes part in Diwali celebration with Hindu community.”

Thus, it is clear that the video is old.
