Date:

A video of scintillating fireworks has gone viral on social media with a claim that it is of recent Diwali celebrations in Delhi. The video is being shared in the backdrop of the Supreme Court refusing to hear plea against Delhi firecracker ban before Diwali.

The video is being shared on Facebook with the caption, “Happy Diwali MiLords. Well done Delhi”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.

Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to an official Twitter handle which carried the same viral video on January 3, 2022, with the caption, “The Mayor of Naples, Italy cited COVID as the reason to ban fireworks on New Year’s Eve. But, the Neapolitans were having none of it. Watch as fireworks light up the Italian night this past NYE”.

The shorter version of the same video is also available on a verified YouTube channel on January 4, 2022, with the title, “WATCH: NAPLES, ITALY COMPLETELY DEFIES MAYOR’S FIREWORK BAN DUE TO COVID”.

Ruptly claimed that despite a prohibition on visitors, fireworks lit up the sky in Naples on New Year’s Eve.

The Times of India report stated that despite ban, people continued to burst firecrackers during Diwali celebrations in many parts of the city.

Thus, it is evident that the viral video is unrelated to the Diwali celebrations in Delhi.
