Ahead of Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022, which is likely to be held in November-December, a video of BJP leader Hardik Patel has gone viral on social media.
In the video, people are seen chasing Hardik Patel. The video is shared with a claim that the video is recent and people chased away Hardik Patel.
The caption associated with the video reads, “गुजरात में भाजपा नेता हार्दिक पटेल को लोगों ने भगाया।पाटीदार आंदोलन से ग़द्दारी के कारण गुजरात के लोग नाराज़ है हार्दिक पटेल से। भाजपा के ख़िलाफ़ गुजरात की जनता खड़ी हो रही है। 27 साल के भाजपा के कुशासन के खिलाफ गुजरात के लोग”

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be misleading.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search with one of the screenshots, we found the same image was uploaded by a YouTube channel on March 26, 2019, with a caption that reads, “People of Gujarat Slam Hardik Patel.”
The video was also uploaded by a YouTube channel on March 26, 2019, with a caption that read: “आज गुजरात के लोगों ने हार्दिक पटेल को भगाया” (English translation, “Today the people of Gujarat drove away Hardik Patel.”)
We found that Hardik Patel had joined Congress in 2019. According to an NDTV report, “Patidar leader Hardik Patel, who shot to fame by spearheading a quota stir in Gujarat, joined the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi during the party’s Working Committee meet in Ahmedabad on March 12, 2019.”
We further found that he later joined BJP in 2022. According to a report published by The Hindu on June 2, 2022, “Two weeks after resigning from the Congress as working president of the Gujarat unit, Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel joined BJP to start a “new chapter” and as a “small soldier in the PM’s efforts to build a new India.”
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and the claim is misleading.
