Fact Check: Video of TRS Leader Distributing Freebies in Telangana Falsely Shared as That from Gujarat

Date:

Viral video of a man distributing liquor bottle and chicken to people is doing the rounds on social media claiming that the post is from Gujarat.

(English translation: This video, which is rapidly getting viral on social media, is from Gujarat, where politicians are distributing alcohol and chicken to lure voters. In democracy, public is the boss, but with the lure of greed, they sell their conscience and for five years, the leader sucks every drop of blood, and you cannot even question the system.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Google Keyword Search along with keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, we found multiple videos of a TRS leader doing so.

A YouTube video titled: TRS Distributes Chicken, Alcohol Bottles Ahead Of KCR’s Entry Into National Politics, published on the official channel of Times Now, dated October 5, 2022, corroborates the same.

According to the video, the man in question was Rajanala Srihari, a TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) leader, and he was distributing freebies ahead of the launch of a national party by Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao. The keyframes of the video in the news report match with that of the viral video and related news reports could be found on sites of various national media houses, including Republic World, India Today and Zee News among others.

A tweet by BJP State General Secretary, Andhra Pradesh, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy tagging TRS President KT Rama Rao, dated October 4, 2022 says that TRS leaders were seen distributing freebies.

Another tweet, dated October 4, 2022, was also traced on the official handle of the ANI news agency with a longer video. The keyframes from 2:04 to 2:32, of the video in the tweet, match exactly with the viral video, proving that the distribution was, indeed, done by TRS leaders.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video is shared with a misleading claim.
