A video is widely being shared on social media showing a few men hitting a woman and trying to enter her house.
The video is shared with a claim that the incident took place in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupur city, and warned people not to allow strangers at home.
The caption associated with the video reads: “வடமாநில கொள்ளையர்கள் அட்டகாசம்* *தமிழகப் பெண்கள் உஷாராக இருக்க வேண்டும்* குடிப்பதற்கு தண்ணீர் வேண்டும் என்று சொல்லி திருப்பூரில் பெண்ணை தாக்கி பல லட்சம் மதிப்புள்ள நகைகள் கொள்ளை அடிக்க பட்டன பெண் படுகாயம் எச்சரிக்கை எச்சரிக்கை*அதை அக்கம் பக்கத்தில் ஏதாவது சத்தம் கேட்டால் கொஞ்சம் எட்டி பாருங்கள்.அங்கே எதிர் வீட்டில் இருந்தவர்கள் அந்த கதவை பூட்டி இருந்தால் அந்த கொள்ளையர்கள் தப்பி இருக்கவும் முடியாது.அப்பார்மெண்டில் இருப்பவர்கள் தயவு செய்து அக்கம் பக்கத்தில் யார் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று பார்த்து கொள்ளுங்கள்….” (English translation: “North state robbers atrocities* *Tamil women should be alert* A woman was attacked by robbers in Tirupur who said that they need water to drink and robbed jewellery worth lakhs. NewsMobile did the fact check and found it to be misleading.
To our surprise, the same video had been uploaded by NavBharat Times on September 14, 2022. According to the report, the incident took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where some robbers were trying to enter a house by masquerading as police.
News18 had also reported about the incident and stated that the incident was from Jaipur.
The Tamil Nadu police had also uploaded a screenshot of the video on its official Twitter handle on October 2, 2022, and clarified that the claim attached to the video is fake.
Thus, we can ascertain that the viral post is misleading.
