New Delhi: In a major step to curb air pollution, vehicle owners in the national capital will not be provided fuel at petrol pumps without showing a valid Pollution Under Control certificate (PUC) from October 25.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “Vehicular emission is one of the key contributors to rising pollution in Delhi. It is imperative to reduce it so it has been decided that from October 25 petrol, diesel will not be provided at petrol pumps without a PUC certificate of the vehicle,”.
If caught without a valid PUC certificate, vehicle owners may face imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up to Rs 10,000, as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
He further added that a detailed notification will be issued to clear the plan’s modalities.
According to a report by the Delhi Transport Department, more than 17 lakh vehicles were running in Delhi till July 2022 without proper and valid certification.
