A claim has surfaced on the internet stating that Chinese President, Xi Jinping has been placed under house arrest amid the reports of a coup.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.

We started our investigation with an extensive search on the internet about Xi Jinping being house arrested, but we did not find any authentic report supporting the claim.

However, it was noted that Xi Jinping was missing from the public eye for some time, but a report by The Hindu dated September 27, 2022, stated that Xi Jinping made his first public appearance 11 days after attending Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan.

The report further stated that the Chinese President avoided public engagements after returning from Uzbekistan as part of the COVID protocol.

Hence, with the above information, we can conclude that the claim of Xi Jinping in a house arrest is false.
