Fact Check: Portrait of Sachin Pilot Gifted to Rahul Gandhi During Bharat Jodo Yatra Is Misleading

Date:

Amid the Congress’ ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, a rally that started from Kanyakumari and will end in Kashmir, an image has gone viral on social media.

In the image, a lady is seen gifting a sketch of Congress leader Sachin Pilot to Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The caption associated with the image reads: “भारत जोड़ो यात्रा में समर्थक द्वारा दी गई तस्वीर Rahul Gandhi Sachin Pilot.” (English translation: “A gift presented by a supporter during Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot.”)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be fake.

To our surprise, a similar image has been uploaded by India TV, dated September 22, 2022. In the original image, the woman can be seen gifting the sketch of Rahul Gandhi and not Sachin Pilot.

We also compared the viral image with the original image and found that the woman gifted Rahul Gandhi’s portrait to him and not Sachin Pilot.

Congress had tweeted the original image on September 22, 2022, showing the woman  presenting Rahul Gandhi’s sketch to him.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
