FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Running a keyword search, we found reports from 2011 about Wayne Parnell converting to Islam. An article by NDTV mentioned that Parnell converted to Islam after a period of personal study and reflection.

“I converted to Islam in January 2011, after a period of personal study and reflection and it is a faith that I have always been interested in… My faith choice is a matter which I would like to keep private,” ESPNcrickinfo quoted Parnell as saying.

The viral picture had been shared by Parnell on Instagram in May 2022, on the occasion of Eid, with a caption: “Taqabbal Allaahu minna wa minkum (May Allah accept from you and from us) #eidmubarak.”

Wayne Parnell had also tied the knot with fashion blogger Aisha Baker at the Zeenatul Islam Mosque in District Six, Cape Town, in 2016. The reports can be seen here and here.

Hence, it can be concluded that the post is misleading.
