According to Nikkei Asia, farmers and officials in Pakistan are preparing for an unprecedented food crisis as the agricultural costs have skyrocketed across the nation. Officials believe that more than 800,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed due to heavy floods. The provinces of Sindh and Balochistan, as well as south Punjab, have sustained severe damage.
In the above context, a video is widely shared on social media showing a boy eating grass. The video is shared with a caption that it is famine in Pakistan after the recent flood.
The caption reads, “کونسی قیامت کیسی قیامت کا ہم انتظار کر رہے ہیں یہ قیامت ہی تو ہے بیٹا ہمیں معاف کرنا #FloodsInPakistan2022” (English translation, “What catastrophy, what kind of catastrophy are we waiting for, this is the doomsday, son, forgive us #FloodsInPakistan2022.”)

NewsMobile did the fact check, and found it to be misleading.
We found the same video uploaded by a YouTube video, dated February 26, 2022, with a caption: “Syrian child eating grass.”
Another YouTube channel had also uploaded the similar video on February 25, 2022, mentioning that it was of a Syrian boy.
A report by DailyMail UK, dated May 27, 2015, talks about an interview of a young Syrian boy saying he was so hungry that he and his family had been forced to eat grass to survive.
NewsMobile was not able to confirm original source of the video. But we are sure that this image is not associated with Pakistan flood. Hence, the viral claim is misleading.
