Just a few days before the launch of the free delivery of atta scheme to the marginalised section of the state, the Punjab government ordered verification of all blue ration cards distributed by the previous government during the time of elections. The verification process comes to light after a viral video showing a man loading sacks of rations, from a government subsidy ration store, in his Mercedes started doing the rounds on social media.
Many social media users have shared the video, claiming that the man taking advantage of the scheme is the district president of Aam Aadmi Party.
A Facebook user posted the viral video with a caption: ਹੁਣ ਇਸਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਬਦਲਾਵ ਨੀ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ, 70 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਚ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਬਦਲਾਵ ਨੇ ਕਰਤਾ।

Running a Google Keyword Search related to the viral video, we traced a news report by Daily Post Punjabi, dated September 6, 2022, published on their official Facebook Handle.
According to the news report, the person in the viral video is Ramesh Saini, a resident of Ajowal Road in Hoshiarpur. Saini informs that the Mercedes belongs to one of his relatives who live in the US. Since the car runs on diesel, so they have asked him to take it out once in a while, to keep the engine running. That is why he took the car out to pick up his ration.
Also, the NDTV news report, titled: Punjab Man Picks Up Cheap Ration In A Mercedes, Video Stuns Internet, dated September 6, 2022, contains the same statement by Saini as given in the video above. It also informs us that he runs a small videography business and his children go to a government school since he can’t afford to send them to a private school.
Conducting a Google Keyword Search to confirm whether Saini is the district president of Aam Aadmi Party in Hoshiarpur or not, we came across another article, titled: ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਆ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਫੈਸਲਾ -ਕਰਮਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ (English translation: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government took a historic decision in favour of women — Karamjit Kaur), published on the website of a local news channel — Hoshiarpur News.
The article informs that the district president from Hoshiarpur is Karamji Kaur, as opposed to the claims in the viral video.
