Fact Check: Edited Image Shared as Queen Elizabeth’s Memorial in McDonald’s

Date:

An image of a McDonald’s kiosk displaying a black and white picture of Queen Elizabeth II is widely shared on social media, claiming that it shows a memorial to the Queen.

Here’s the link to the viral post

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Doing a simple Reverse Image Search, we found an article carrying the original image, dated July 9, 2017. Instead of displaying a picture of the Queen in black and white, the kiosk’s screen displays McDonald’s emblem in green. Additionally, it has prompts for users to enter their food order information.

Searching further, we found the original image tweeted by a London-based design agency in 2017.

Below is the comparison between the viral image and original image.

Thus, it is evident that an edited image is being falsely shared as Queen Elizabeth II’s memorial in McDonald’s.
